Speech-Language Pathologist

Karen P. Guerra, MS, CCC-SLP, is a bilingual speech-language pathologist with 19 years of pediatric experience, mostly focusing on the evaluation and treatment of monolingual and bilingual children. Karen, who speaks English and Spanish, received her master’s in audiology and speech pathology from Florida State University. She relocated to Atlanta, Ga., in 2003 to work for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in an outpatient rehabilitation facility serving the Latino community in Georgia.

In addition to conducting assessments and treatment of children birth to 18 years of age, Karen supervised graduate students in speech-language pathology from the University of Georgia, Georgia State University and University of West Georgia, and provided professional development training on the assessment and treatment of bilingual children. She served as a team member in a multidisciplinary clinic focusing on children with various developmental disabilities, such as cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She also worked in a preschool setting, providing assessments and interventions to bilingual children with cochlear implants and hearing aids.

As a part of the assessment and diagnosis team at Marcus Autism Center, Karen is involved in various research studies impacting family training and engagement of Latino caregivers, community screenings, and diagnosis and assessments of underserved populations.
