Brain Health Center
In pairing one of only five Autism Centers of Excellence nationwide with one of the largest pediatric neurosciences programs in the country, we are in a unique position to positively impact the brain health of children in Georgia and beyond.
Developing brains—like growing bodies—require the expertise of specially trained physicians, surgeons and rehabilitation therapists.
Whether the patients we see in the Brain Health Center have been diagnosed with autism, are suffering from concussion symptoms, or need surgery we’re here to provide cutting-edge care and treatment.
We’re the largest pediatric neurosciences program in the country (and one of the best)
Across 25 neuroscience programs and clinical subspecialties, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta takes care of more pediatric neurological patients than any other hospital in the country. Period. That’s a tremendous responsibility, and one we don’t take lightly. Whether it’s one of the more than 15,000 epilepsy outpatient visits, or over 3,100 calls to our concussion nurse line, or more than 1,400 neurosurgeries, each interaction is an opportunity to positively affect a child’s brain health. Children’s will never settle, because Georgia’s children deserve nothing less than the finest care, and for this reason, U.S. News & World Report ranks us among the Top 20 Best Children’s Neurology and Neurosurgery Centers.
Marcus Autism Center is a unique resource in the country
As of 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates 1 in 44 children in the U.S.—an estimated 56,800 in Georgia—will be diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. As the only place in the country investigating how autism unfolds from before birth throughout childhood, Marcus Autism Center is contributing essential understanding to enabling breakthrough discoveries. As one of the largest clinics of its kind, Marcus Autism Center saw more than 5,000 kids and teens across more than 41,000 visits in 2021.
The Brain Health Center is poised to develop in transformative ways
Being one of the largest pediatric neurosciences program in the country presents us with a tremendous opportunity—every improvement and every step forward the center makes impacts even more lives. And the Brain Health Center has the potential to make incredible leaps forward. Proper funding will propel our understanding and treatment of neurological disorders by:
- Maximizing children's potential through a focus on early brain development, as well as behavioral and mental health;
- Advancing specialized care and improving outcomes of conditions such as epilepsy, headache, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and more; and
- Leveraging national interest in sports-related concussion and traumatic brain injury to study impact in young athletes
A new standard for patients
For everyone—from children with autism to those seeking treatment for a concussion to those needing intervention from our neurosurgeons—the new hospital will mean transformative care. With your support, we can build on the momentum achieved from research breakthroughs such as the patent we obtained for research findings related to blood biomarkers for severe traumatic brain injuries. We can expand the groundbreaking work of Marcus Autism Center. And we can build on the successful introductions of new programs and multidisciplinary clinics that allow for more specialized care.
Brain Health Depends on You
Developing brains need special care and expertise. We’ll never settle for anything less than the best.
