IMPORTANT UPDATES

Toddlers climbing rock wall

Children’s provides a safe, respectful and caring environment for all kids. We treat our patients with dignity, respect, compassion and courtesy, and without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender or disability. We make accommodations for individuals seeking services with special communication needs, including impaired sight, hearing and limited English proficiency.

In 2023, Children's care for more than 450,000 unique patients and handled more than 1,188,300 total patient visits.

Providing affordable care to more kids

Nearly 60% of our patients in 2022 were on Medicaid, PeachCare for Kids or unable to cover the cost of their care. In 2022, to allow more patients and their families to qualify for free or discounted care, Children’s made several updates to our Financial Assistance Policy.

Our freestanding hospitals and strategically located programs help treat kids with common and complex childhood illnesses and provide access to more than 2,300 pediatric physicians representing more than 60 specialties and programs. Children’s intentionally reaches kids in underserved areas with programs that meet their needs. For example, we have located specific programs for asthma, adolescent medicine, diabetes and sickle cell disease at Hughes Spalding in downtown Atlanta.

While most kids only need primary care, typically 1 in 5 children requires hospitalization or specialty care. We sustain strong relationships with hospitals and pediatricians across Georgia who refer their patients to us when specialized care is required.

We support local care across Georgia with programs designed to reach clinicians and practice providers where they are, through programs such as:

Children’s has a long-standing tradition of community involvement. From employee volunteers to community outreach efforts, we strive to reach outside our hospital walls to educate and support families across our state.

Our community development officers work in partnership with key community stakeholders throughout the region, and support Children’s services and mission with local outreach activities. We engage in the community to build awareness and support for Children’s as the area’s premier pediatric healthcare provider.

Our community engagement includes developing relationships with community members, corporate employers, school systems, non-profits caring for children and families, donors, volunteers and patient families for the purpose of linking Children’s services and programs to the communities it serves to improve the well-being of children in Georgia. Our community advisory councils are composed of local business, community and nonprofit leaders who are not only dedicated to community service but also focused on the needs and well-being of children in their communities. Council members work as advocates and liaisons between the community and Children’s.

As liaisons, they often voice the needs and concerns of the community to Children’s, expressing how our System can better serve the community. The Children’s community advisory councils play a vital role in advancing the Children’s Mission of making children better today and healthier tomorrow.

Children’s currently has community advisory councils in the following regions: Cherokee County, Cobb County, Gwinnett County, and the Southern Crescent region.

Children’s Community Engagement team welcomes the opportunity to share more information about the care, programs, and services we offer. Please contact one of the team members above to discuss how we can work together.
