Opening Sept. 29, Arthur M. Blank Hospital is the centerpiece of the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta North Druid Hills campus. Located at the corner of I-85 and North Druid Hills Road, the new 19-story, 2-million-square-foot facility will allow us to expand our reach and continue to meet the needs of Georgia’s kids today, and for generations to come.

Services offered

With an Emergency Department, state-of-the-art operating rooms, infusion center and advanced diagnostic equipment, Arthur M. Blank Hospital will be home to many clinical specialties, including cancer and blood disorders, cardiac, critical care, neurosciences, orthopedics, lab, radiology, transplant and much more.

Additionally, Arthur M. Blank Hospital will be a place for groundbreaking new innovations and services. There will be a Special Care Unit for the treatment of patients with highly infectious diseases, three cardiovascular operating rooms, and an inpatient dialysis unit.

With the opening of Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Sunday, Sept. 29, current clinical services at Egleston Hospital and outpatient clinics at the Emory Children’s Center will move to the new hospital. Additionally, we will consolidate all cancer and blood disorders services from the Egleston and Scottish Rite campuses to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.

Here is important information you need to know about the move of clinical services as well as the impact to some of these services on the days leading up to the move and on the days following the move.

To help prepare for the move, walk-in lab and radiology services will be closed at Egleston on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. Visit one of our other locations during this time:

Walk-in lab and radiology services will re-open at Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Monday, Sept. 30.

Outpatient clinics at Egleston, the Emory Children’s Center and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center will be limiting appointments in the days leading up to the move. If your child is sick and the clinic is closed, call 404-785-KIDS (5437) or the clinic’s after-hours phone number.

  • Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center: Outpatient clinics on the Egleston and Scottish Rite campuses will be closed starting at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26. This includes BMT and oncology infusion services.
    • Psychology services will be closed starting Thursday, Sept. 26.
    • Scottish Rite Day Hospital will be closed starting Saturday, Sept. 28.
  • Heart Center: Outpatient cardiac clinics on the Egleston campus, including CT surgery, pulmonary hypertension and single ventricle, will be closed starting Thursday, Sept. 26. The fetal cardiology clinic will be closed starting at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26.
  • Infusion: Infusion services at the Emory Children’s Center will be closed starting Friday, Sept. 27.
  • Transplant: All pre- and post-transplant clinics on the Egleston campus will be closed starting at noon on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Note, all other outpatient clinics, including Children’s Cardiology clinics, will not be impacted by the move. These clinics will remain open at their current locations with normal hours of operation.

There will be no pulmonary function tests (PFT) scheduled at Egleston on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. We will resume PFTs at Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Monday, Sept. 30.

In addition, the sleep lab at Egleston will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. We will resume overnight sleep studies at Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Monday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m..

Surgeries will not be scheduled at Egleston the week prior to the move, Sept. 23 to 28. Note, emergency surgical services will not be interrupted.

Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding Hospitals will remain open for surgical care.

Egleston will have reduced capacity for transfers and admissions the days leading up to the move on Sept. 29.

Additionally, surgical cases will not be scheduled at Egleston the week prior to the move, Sept. 23 to 28. During this week, surgical services will be limited to urgent and emergency cases only. Please keep these dates in mind when scheduling elective surgeries and deliveries of fetal patients who may require a transfer to Egleston.

Emergency surgical cases will not be interrupted.

What is happening on Sept. 29?

On Sunday, Sept. 29, Arthur M. Blank Hospital will open at 7 a.m. and the Egleston Emergency Department will close simultaneously. Additionally, we will begin transporting all patients from Egleston and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Scottish Rite to the new hospital.

  • Each family participating in the move will receive a packet with detailed information about the move.
  • The move will be completed in one day and will end once the last patient has been transported.
  • There will be designated routes for ambulance transport. 
  • If you are driving in or around these areas on move day, you may experience temporary road closures and/or traffic delays. Please yield to ambulances and practice patience during this time.

Will visitors be allowed at Egleston on Sept. 29?

No. Visitation at Egleston for non-legal guardians and caregivers will end at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. Visitation will resume at Arthur M. Blank Hospital on Monday, Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m.

Where do I take my child if they need emergency services on move day?

In case of a life-threatening emergency, take your child to the nearest emergency department.

  • The Emergency Department at Egleston will be closed effective Sept. 29. If you need pediatric emergency services, do not go to Egleston on or after Sept. 29.
  • The Emergency Department at Arthur M. Blank Hospital will open Sept. 29 at 7 a.m.
  • Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding will continue to offer pediatric emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What will happen to Egleston after clinical services move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital?

The future of Egleston’s campus is still to be determined.

What will happen on Sept. 29?

On Sunday, Sept. 29, Arthur M. Blank Hospital will open at 7 a.m. and the Egleston Emergency Department will close simultaneously. Additionally, patients at Egleston and those within the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Scottish Rite will be transported via ambulance to the new hospital.

  • The move will take place in one day and will end once the last patient is transported via a designated route.
  • Our Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding Hospitals will remain open.

How will the move impact transfers and admissions?

  • Egleston will have reduced capacity for transfers and admissions the days leading up to the move on Sunday, Sept. 29.
  • Egleston and Arthur M. Blank Hospital will be on the following diversion schedule:
    • Elective transfers will be on diversion Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. until Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. If clinically appropriate and capacity allows, patients may be electively transferred and admitted to Scottish Rite. Exceptions include patients in need of cardiac, transplant, dialysis, hepatology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, or neonatal diaphragmatic hernia care.
    • ECMO will go on diversion to external facilities Sept. 29 at 7 a.m. to Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
    • Trauma, except penetrating chest, will be on diversion Sept. 28 at 7 a.m. to Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.
    • The Emergency Department will be on diversion Sept. 29 from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m.
  • On Sept. 29, there will be no scheduled admissions at Arthur M. Blank Hospital, and we will not accept transfers from external facilities. Exceptions may be considered for special circumstances.
  • Scottish Rite and Hughes Spalding Hospitals will remain open for admissions and transfers, as appropriate.

How will the move impact surgical cases?

  • Surgical cases will not be scheduled at Egleston during the week prior to the move, Sept. 23 to 28. During this week, surgical services will be limited to urgent and emergency cases only.
  • On Sept. 29, operating rooms at Egleston and Arthur M. Blank Hospital will be open for emergency cases only.
  • As we approach move day, keep the above dates in mind when scheduling elective surgeries or deliveries of fetal patients who may require a transfer for services typically provided at Egleston (i.e., congenital heart disease, complex diaphragmatic hernia).

When will Arthur M. Blank Hospital open?

Arthur M. Blank Hospital opens Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7 a.m. While some clinical services may be limited in the days after the move as we ramp up to full operations at the new hospital, the Emergency Department will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Where do I park at Arthur M. Blank Hospital?

Arthur M. Blank Hospital has two parking decks that are open 24 hours a day. The visitor parking deck serves as the main parking deck for patient families and visitors while the emergency and staff parking deck is reserved for patient families accessing the Emergency Department and Children’s employees.

What amenities are offered at Arthur M. Blank Hospital?

Extra consideration was put into patient and family amenities throughout the new hospital. Some of the amenities include kitchenettes, child life activity rooms, laundry facilities on every patient floor, dedicated sleeping rooms, and a business center to help normalize a family’s routine as much as possible during their hospital stay. The hospital’s playgrounds, playrooms, libraries and school-support spaces also allow for kids to feel like kids.

When are visitors allowed at Arthur M. Blank Hospital?

Visitation for non-legal guardians and caregivers begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 30.
